Laptop Deconstruction > Digital Picture Frame
1. The first step was successful deconstruction of the laptop - an old Compaq Presario 1220. I had intended to take pictures as I took it apart. Thankfully putting it back together wasn't too difficult.
The first picture shows the guts of the laptop, less the keyboard, video shielding, speakers, battery, and a couple boards - modem and a power converter.
Note the ferrite shield for the video cable just below the LCD panel.
2. Up next...successful boot. But first, some misc laptop pictures.
This piece seems to serve two purposes. One is to shield the LCD from electromagnetic (EM) interference. The other purpose is heat dissipation from the processor. The square piece sat on top of the chip and heat would then dissipate from the thin metal cover. I'll probably use the same piece in the picture frame.
This is a shot of the guts. The floppy drive has been removed (foreground) and the video chip and video cable connection are center. The Cyrix processor is center right. Far right is the empty battery bay. And top center is the PC card bay. HD is upper right corner on top of the CD-ROM drive. Finally the small wire on the left is the power switch - a tiny button once the top button was removed.
For those who really care,
this
is the link to the large version.
I successfully booted in discombobulated form. Notice the discoloration of the LCD panel from the power cord that happened to be on the ground. Opps.
