SP2

I installed SP2 the other day...

My bootup is now taking a few minutes. Anyone have any clue how to reduce my post-SP2 bootup time?

I love you man, but you just have to give up on XP. I'm playing around with Wine ( www.winehq.org ) on my Redhat 9 box. Hopefully, I can get Office working for my old documents, but I'm done with Windows at home. OpenOffice now for everything else.

My pre-SP2 laptop boots 10-15 seconds longer than my Redhat box does... side by side comparison demonstrated it last night. And my Redhat box negotiates the NIST timeservers, starts up my web servers, and connects to various network shares.

Most of the reviews/comments I have heard go about 75/25 towards "Don't install it!".

Have you checked out the MS KB to see if that yeilds anything?

I have not had any problems with it. You need to know what to leave on and what to turn off. Don't use Automatic Updater and check out what options you have going on the Security Center.

I actually rolled back (i.e. uninstalled) SP2 the other day. I was just too frustrated with the boot problems. Thankfully the uninstall worked well.
