Quarter Break

Breaks are a fun phenomenon. Every day feels like a Saturday! Actually it takes a couple days to adjust to not having deadlines and thinking about what is due tomorrow or the next quiz or test, but it's a great time to get caught up on everything that got postponed - such as taxes. :(

Stupid taxes.

You're read my tirade concerning taxes, but let me reiterate for the masses:

Last year, I - being the primary income earning in our household - made a non-insignificant sum of money. It's not enough to let us buy a dwelling within a reasonable distance from the city, but it is enough to live comfortably in an apartment.

I took classes towards my MSEE, tithed 12.5% to religious organizations, donated our old car to the American Cancer Society, significantly paid down student loans - killed 2/5 of them, donated to Fischer House - great group by the way - and what did our refund end up being?

-$59.

Yep, after all of that, we still owe.

I don't want to even think about the numbers with my new business.

KC,

I feel your pain. I had the pleasure of needing to file 3 state taxes - 2 part year and 1 full refund because my former employer mistakenly withheld DC taxes for one paycheck. :(

That's how it was in 2003 for us.

Full VA, partial IL, mis-taken MD.
