While proving points with examples is not really a proof, one example that search has a long way to go in terms of relevance is a simple Google search that results in this site being the number one results. Search for the following: lead chicago gsb (not with quotes either). There is no rational person that would say that I or this site is the appropriate number one result for the most appropriate site which is actually located here at the LEAD site. :)
Posted by Jeremy Showalter at October 30, 2005 09:31 PMIt's probably because of the people who have linked to your site and the fact that you're in the middle of a rather large gsb circle of links.
Remember when searching just used to be based on keyword content? Ew.
I'm probably a pretty big contributor there as the CaseySoftware Blog is in the 20k blogs according to Technorati. ;) Most of it was due to my attending and discussing Startup School.
Posted by: Keith Casey at October 31, 2005 04:41 PMWeird, That is exactly how I got to your site today. Well actually, I typed "gsb lead facilitators".
Posted by: Heather Salonga at November 2, 2005 10:22 AMReally? I find it pretty odd especially since all the facilitators are listed on the LEAD website.
Posted by: Jeremy Showalter at November 2, 2005 11:27 AMJust a thought.....perhaps it stems from the fact that you have the string LEAD (preceeded and proceeded by blank) more times than the Chicago GSB site) looking at the page source code... Maybe there is a cataloging taking place that (Google) indexes for the frequencies of the search words on pages/document.
I do not pretend to understand search engine logic however....
Any thoughts?
Hmm, that's an interesting idea. Also I doubt many people are linking to the Chicago GSB LEAD site, while blogroles and other links will connect to this site more frequently through the MBA blogs lists.
